Sue prepared a Tea for "my girls", a party of 7 on a Saturday morning. She was in and out of the room unobtrusively. It was a relaxing time, made especially so because there was no prep and no cleanup on our part and because the food was delightful!

We hired Sue Graves to be our personal chef and cook one meal a week during August, 2016.  It has been a wonderful experience.  At that point our daughter was planning on spending the month with us with her newborn and 20 month old.  We wanted a menu heavy on fresh local produce and no red meats.

 

Sue sent a menu in advance, and we could change it anytime we wanted to.  It had a checklist of ingredients to see if I already had anything.  She showed up, brought all the ingredients I didn’t have, cooked in my kitchen and cleaned up afterwards.  She left everything in containers (mine) with instructions on how to heat.


The food was good, fresh and mostly local.  You could eat when you wanted to and there were no long restaurant waits.  There were generally leftovers for a second meal.  We have varied the number of people she was cooking for, and Sue accommodated us.  The cost was more than for fast food and less than for a first class restaurant.

It is great for when you are stressed and want someone to cook comfort food for you.

Sue has been a tremendous help for the past two years with my choir end of year celebrations. She efficiently planned and cooked the menu for thirty and organized service so the meal flowed. She has demonstrated flexibility and willingness to use not only her own recipes, but also some of mine. She was able to walk into my kitchen and, using my things, make a delicious dinner for thirty! In addition to her attendance at many educational programs I have recently offered, I have had the pleasure of working closely with Sue as a part of the Virginia Cooperative Extension Eat Smart Move More at the Farmers Market, sponsored by a grant from Virginia’s SNAP Education Program. The main focus of this campaign is to encourage SNAP recipients across the state to redeem their benefits at Farmers Markets. We launched the campaign at our two local farmers markets and at each launch event, we wanted to feature a local celebrity chef doing cooking demos with fresh, healthy products available at the market. When I approached Sue about helping us in this capacity, she enthusiastically agreed to volunteer her time to help our community. Not only did she create easy recipes that she was willing to share with market customers, but she also cooked up delicious samples that got folks excited about the possibilities of cooking with goods purchased from the market. As a demonstrator, Sue was personable and happy to chat with customers, provide tips and encourage them to try new things. Through the planning process, correspondence was prompt and communication was easy. I look forward to working with her in the future and would not hesitate to recommend her as a personal chef, both for her professionalism and for her delicious and healthy creations!

Sue prepared two meals for our large family when we vacationed at Smith Mountain Lake in Virginia. The meals prepared were delicious and prepared with very fresh ingredients. Even ingredients from her own home grown garden! The meals were tasty and plenty for all with left overs. Her specialty is dessert. She made rhubarb pie which rivaled my mother’s and also Panna Cotta with Seasonal Berries that was absolutely superb. She took the hassle out of me having to prepare meals for 13 people. We will use her services again when visiting SML in the future! Great food at reasonable price!
